Kennedy Contemporary is pleased to present Point~Counterpoint, a solo exhibition of seventeen new works by San Francisco Bay Area abstract painter, Leslie Allen.
Balancing her time between abstract oil painting and cello playing, Leslie Allen’s paintings reflect a keen understanding of the delicate balance between color and form. Throughout her decades-long career, Allen explored a wide range of visual mediums that inform her present work, such as figure and landscape painting, cartooning, graphic design, and playing the cello.
Most paintings exhibited in Point~Counterpoint were created during the pandemic in 2020-2021. Allen describes this time as “the soulful days,” when her painting became directly influenced by her remote musical practice for the Marin Symphony Orchestra. Playing the cello at home drove Leslie to pursue uniquely new and bold styles. Ranging from geometric to lyrical, emotionally dark to light-filled, these works highlight the incredible breadth and talent of this Bay Area artist.
Allen lives and works in Sausalito and is represented by Kennedy Contemporary (Newport Beach, CA) and Seager Gray Gallery (Mill Valley, CA). Her works reside in private and public collections throughout the United States, as well as in London (United Kingdom), Toulouse (France), Düsseldorf and Berlin (Germany), and Bern (Switzerland).
