THE PROJECT

Take a right up Dover Drive off the Pacific Coast Highway and a left when you hit Castaways Park to discover one of Newport Beach's most coveted addresses: Cliff Drive. It's here that Erica Bryen of Erica Bryen Design joined forces with Brandon Architects, Jason Gonterman of Gonterman Construction and Garden Studio Design to create one of the neighborhood's most beautiful homes. A project three years in the making, planning began in 2021 and was completed in February 2024. "This project was very close to home because it was a personal home for a builder we have worked with for a long time," says Bryen. "We wanted to create a clean, modern home that embraced the amazing view but was also warm, cozy and inviting because the owners are big entertainers."

THE INSPIRATION

With spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Newport Harbor, the great outdoors served as a key focal point for the entire design team. “The Cliff Drive residence was inspired by the indisputable harbor and ocean views that informed the dramatic cantilevering floor and roof plates off the entry and primary suite,” shares Brandon Architects principal Christopher Brandon. “These elements frame views all the way to the rear of the home. Expansive glass throughout the residence enhances this notion. It is coupled with a contemporary yet warm material palette that provides an engaging entry sequence, nestled between concrete walls as you arrive at the expansive open first-floor great room and kitchen spaces.”
