Each work, whether on canvas or panel, is an investigation.
Kennedy Contemporary is proud to present Entrance Into Language, a new solo exhibition by Los Angeles- based artist, Joseph Justus. With a diverse offering of both paintings and drawings, this exciting new body of work explores both mediums to visually expose the unconscious. This beautiful, raw collection serves as a bridge between the innermost self and visual expression.
Painting from this psychological space, Justus’ abstract works depict a primal visual language with instinctual marks. Seeking to create from the deepest sense of self, without judgment or censoring, these abstract movements are created with a deep sense of both urgency and a deeper questioning. These works create a space that is entirely devoid of pretense. They emerge from within the artist in their purest form, guided only by intuitively created color harmonies.
As in previous work, the physical process is essential. The works on paper in small casual ways investigate the unconscious which is always at work. And his paintings fast moving and desperate, are guided by questioning and searching. Entrance Into Language marks the irrevocable union from mind and painting.
