Jeremy Prim
Prim creates paintings that hover between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers into contemplative spaces shaped by light, movement, and shifting perspective.
Jeremy Prim is a contemporary artist, based in Seattle and Whidbey Island, WA, whose work investigates the interplay between perception, memory, and the natural world. Self-taught and deeply informed by the atmospheric qualities of the Pacific Northwest, Prim creates paintings that hover between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers into contemplative spaces shaped by light, movement, and shifting perspective.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, Prim constructs subtle, layered surfaces through a process of accumulation and reduction. Thin veils of paint, softened edges, and restrained palettes create compositions that feel at once expansive and intimate. His paintings often evoke the ambiguity of the horizon—those fleeting moments where sea, sky, and atmosphere dissolve into one another—allowing perception to drift between clarity and obscurity. Through these quiet visual transitions, Prim explores how memory and emotion can become embedded within landscape.
Rooted in a deep connection to coastal environments, his work invites quiet reflection on impermanence and presence. Drawing inspiration from the waters surrounding Puget Sound, Prim’s recent Water series reflects views experienced from sailboats and ferries, translating the rhythm and stillness of the sea into immersive, atmospheric compositions. In contrast, his Linescapes series distills seascape elements into more minimal, linear forms, reducing horizon, tide, and movement into simplified gestures that emphasize spatial tension and balance.
Prim has exhibited nationally and his paintings are held in numerous private and corporate collections.
