Karina Bania
“My work begins with a sense of place, but not necessarily a literal one. I’m interested in how light and atmosphere shape our emotional memory of a landscape. Through layering and subtraction, I search for balance — between structure and spontaneity, clarity and ambiguity. The finished painting becomes less about where it is and more about how it feels to be there.”

Karina Bania is a contemporary painter whose work explores the relationship between memory, landscape, and emotional atmosphere. Working primarily in oil, her compositions blur the line between abstraction and representation, inviting the viewer into immersive environments shaped by light, movement, and subtle shifts in color. Rather than documenting a specific place, Karina constructs spaces that feel remembered — suspended somewhere between familiarity and imagination.
Her process is intuitive yet disciplined. Layers of paint are built and edited over time, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve. Through this push and pull, she creates depth that feels both expansive and intimate. Atmospheric color fields and gestural marks suggest terrain, sky, and water, while leaving space for personal interpretation. The resulting works feel contemplative and quietly powerful, encouraging stillness and reflection.
Karina’s paintings have been exhibited nationally and are held in private collections throughout the United States.
