Senem Oezdogan
"The curve raised a whole new set of questions and ideas I wanted to investigate. The work shifted from being about structure and form to being about content and emotion. In a way, it humanized the geometric by turning shape into form, form into volume and volume into emotion."

Senem Oezdogan is a Brooklyn-based painter whose practice includes painting, drawing, and fiber art. Her work focuses on the visual phenomenon of optical illusion through color, form and contrast. Smooth gradients give a sense of volume to bold shapes and play with the juxtaposition of what the mind knows and the eye sees.
Combining concepts of structure and form with observations of content and emotion, her work turns shape into form, form into volume, and volume into emotion. This creates an anthropomorphic and biomorphic system of relationships that refer to the human body and nature, as well as architecture. Clean, distinct lines are a signature mark of her beguiling and elusive compositions.
Senem received her M.A. from the University of Munich and is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology (New York). Her work has been exhibited internationally and resides in private collections around the globe. Although she has always retained an art practice in some form, it wasn’t until she built a comprehensive body of work that she began exhibiting with galleries and pursuing her practice professionally. In the past seven years, Senem’s career has received much attention for her unique vision and thoughtful precision.
