Terri Froelich is an abstract painter and photographer based in Sausalito, California. Her dual passion for painting and photography sparks a unique angle in creating her compositions. Initially, her practice began as mixed media collages combining her photography with acrylic and other materials. However, her current body of work focuses exclusively on capturing the fleeting scenes and moments through painting. In her daily walks and international travels, Terri documents her encounters with nature, architecture, and interesting topography. Using her lens to sort through the chaos of a scene, Terri translates these intersections of shape and color onto her canvas, balancing an intuitive approach to realizing a composition.

Her paintings have won awards, been exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally, juried into art exhibitions and are part of several museums and private collections. She is currently represented by Julie Nester Gallery (Park City, UT), Kennedy Contemporary (Newport Beach, CA), Slate Contemporary (Oakland, CA), Gallery North (Carmel, CA), and Sloan Miyasato (San Francisco, CA).

"The foundation of my work is color and shape, and inspiration is found in details discovered during daily exploration locally or while traveling. I study movement caused by wind, tides, and currents. The ingredient most needed for these studies is light which is observed dancing on water, casting shadows, creating shapes, evoking moods and/or enhancing color. I extract only random details from ordinary chaotic scenes with photography. Daily observations and color studies work as a muscle memory that guide my paintings and intuition. The satisfaction comes from not only the daily discovery, but also the replication and combination of rustic details. My challenge is to reconcile diverse and sometimes conflicting experiences into a balanced piece of art that exposes strong personal meaning."
